On February 27th and 28th, 2025, the University of Tuscia will host the conference “Moving Forward, Looking Back: Digital Transformation and Sustainable Archival Practices in Film Heritage, as part of the SAFE project ā The SustainAbility of Italian Film Heritage. Archival Infrastructures, Digital Preservation, Stewardship Strategies PRIN PNRR 2022. This event aims to explore the current and future challenges of preserving non-fiction and non-theatrical film heritage, bringing together experts, scholars, archivists, and professionals to share and discuss effective solutions for safeguarding moving images. The conference will focus on topics such as digital transformation and the challenges posed by technological innovation, particularly examining digitization strategies, archiving processes, and fund management to ensure long-term, sustainable preservation. On the first day, a roundtable discussion will feature the partner archives of the project (Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico, Archivio Storico Luce, Cineteca dello Stretto, Cineteca del Friuli, Cineteca Sarda, Fondazione Home Movies ā Archivio Nazionale del film di Famiglia), who will share their direct experiences and provide practical insights into the challenges and opportunities of digitally preserving film heritage. On the evening of February 27th, screenings organized by Cineteca dello Stretto, Cineteca Sarda, and the Home Movies Foundation ā Archivio Nazionale del film di Famiglia will also take place.
