SAFE’s scientific group met with the representatives of the Archivio Storico Luce – Cinecittà. Of mutual interest was the monitoring of the Archive’s infrastructure, which will make available the monitoring conducted with Tecno.EL on the Archive’s nitrate vaults in the recent past.
The Archivio Storico Luce, due to the size and the deep history of the institution, experiences a complex relation between the object and the content of the heritage, between corpus mysticum and corpus mechanicum. Most of the projects and collaborations with university research have mainly concerned the contents and less the objects and preservation procedures, therefore the collaboration with SAFE becomes particularly relevant.
The Archivio Storico Luce showed great interest and enthusiasm in participating in the quanti-qualitative survey to monitor the sustainability of preservation practices, both photochemical and digital. It will also focus on the concept of stewardship, which represents the interconnection between practical functions and curatorial decisions.
The decision of the Archivio Storico Luce to take part in survey monitoring demonstrates their strong commitment to deepening the challenges of audiovisual heritage preservation, and offers valuable contributions to outlining effective and sustainable strategies. Their active participation will allow us to examine in detail how cultural-political and organisational choices influence the management and preservation of archives. The collaboration of the Archivio Storico Luce guarantees the project the possibility to measure on a large scale the sustainability of the non-fiction and non-theatrical heritage in SAFE. The Archivio Storico Luce will be part of the meta-design workshops.
